Athletic Works Shoes

As I get older, I’ve had more trouble with my feet, arches and heels in particular. I’ve spent as much as $140 on tennis shoes covering the usual accepted brands Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Skechers. They are good for about 3 weeks to help the foot pain, but I usually end up putting an extra insole or other support after that time. So I decided to try something cheap to see if there was a difference for me. I bought a pair of “Athletic Works” tennis shoes at Wal-Mart.
They were about $21, so I figure if I don’t like [...]

Fisherboy Fun Basket

24oz of fish sticks, popcorn shrimp, and crab bites for about $6.00.
The Fisherboy Fun Basket was well worth the money. It has 0g trans-fat. My husband and I both thought it was good portions and good taste; especially for the price.

Great Day Breakfast Kolaches

I consider myself a kolache connoisseur. Spoiled from my many years stopping at a meat market in Hillje, Texas called Praseks Smokehouse. On my way to Houston I would stop and get jalapeno cheese and sausage kolaches. I have since left the great state of Texas and miss that wonderful treat from the market.
Recently on a trip to Wal-Mart I saw a box labeled kolaches in the frozen food section. I had to try them. They are “Great Day Breakfast” Cheddar Jalapeno Kolaches. I paid around $2.50 for a box of 4 (8oz). I was sorely disappointed, but my husband [...]

Simmons Beautyrest Skyrise Air Mattress

I purchased a Simmons Beautyrest Skyrise Air Mattress in queen size at Wal-Mart for a temporary bed solution.
I paid about $99 for the mattress, pump, and patch kit. We’ve now had the mattress inflated for about three weeks. It has maintained its initial level of air and comfort. I think it is more comfortable than the older bed we had been sleeping on. It has a velveteen like material on the top level of the mattress to add to the comfort and resist slippage. Its height is 24 inches inflated and it uses regular sheets for the size mattress [...]

Melissa’s Champagne Grapes

This small healthy snack was a pleasant surprise for me and my kids. I bought a 16 oz tub of Melissa’s Champagne Grapes at Wal-Mart for around $3.00. They are seedless (because they’re too small to have seeds), but the label said it all “A toast of sweet, full-bodied flavor”.
They seemed to have more flavor than some of the larger grapes. I really enjoyed this surprising snack.

Wal-Mart’s Charles Zimmerman on Energy Efficiency

Charles R. Zimmerman is the vice-president of Prototype and New Format Development for Wal-Mart. His specialty is in energy management for retail buildings. On November 9th at UCLA, I attended a presentation by him. These are the proceedings. Following some quick opening remarks, Charles first asked everyone to stand up, raise their hand, and pledge to make energy efficiency a priority in their home. Nowhere else do we as individuals have as much influence and control in our lives - we should

Wind to Power Texas Wal-Marts

In one of the largest investments of wind energy by a U.S. retailer, mega-seller Wal-Mart has announced it will buy 226 kilowatt-hours of wind power from Duke Energy for about 360 stores and distribution centers in Texas… around 15 percent of the electricity those places use. The Washington Post reports that the the four-year agreement will take out of the environment the equivalent of the emissions of 25,000 cars: The move is the latest step in the company’s three-year-old effort to transfor

Warehouse Stores

From: Leah S. I was just reading through some saved e-mails and came across a L.O.A.D. newsletter from over a year ago that mentioned watching bulk purchases because they might not always be the best deal. It brought to mind what happened to me just yesterday. I was at a Wal-Mart Supercenter and purchased some paper towels. The single roll of Viva was $1.00 and not on sale. The 8 roll multi-pack of the same size roll(my husband and I both checked to be sure!) was $9.02! I have noticed

Wal-Mart Learns A Branding Lesson

It has been a gloomy month for US retailers. Iconic brands such as Linens-n-Things and Mervyns are in liquidation, while former electrical retail powerhouse Circuit City filed for bankruptcy protection last week. Store sales are down at every major US retailer - except one. On Thursday Wal-Mart announced a 7.5% increase in sales for the first three quarters of 2008. Chief executive Lee Scott was smiling when he declared his 'optimism' for the upcoming holiday season, and Tom Schoewe, Wal-Mart's

My poor sweetie

I went shopping after work, since I still have a job that could last two weeks, six months, or years. I went to Wal-Mart (forgot to get the thermal underwear, the specific reason I went to Wally World), Costco, and Fred Meyer. I came home and told Frank about the food I got for our trip. SARAHK: I got a lot of snacks and food in case we get hungry and aren’t anywhere near a city. Even if we are near a city, we don’t know if it will be big enough to have food we can eat. So I got gluten-free cr

Is the old excuse no longer operative?

Good for Walmart!: With the Thanksgiving season upon us, Walmart today announced that its Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets will partner with Feeding America, the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization, to provide an estimated 90 million pounds of food annually – the equivalent of 70 million meals – to families in need by the end of 2009.* Donating nutritious produce, deli meat, beef, chicken, dairy and other groceries directly from its stores, Wal-Mart will become one of F

I Damaged $108

[Photo googled] Yep, you read my title right! We went out for grocery shopping this afternoon at Wal-mart and our sole purpose is to simply buy groceries that we run out of, but the C.L.E.A.R.A.N.C.E. rack in the clothing's section gave us a detour! Hmp!!! So what happened was swithart and I have bought 108 pieces of tees and shorts-- quite a lot, huh? Yep yep, Wal-mart sold their remaining summer items for $1 a piece and I was so tempted! There were of the same color and style and swithart have
