Great Day Breakfast Kolaches
I consider myself a kolache connoisseur. Spoiled from my many years stopping at a meat market in Hillje, Texas called Praseks Smokehouse. On my way to Houston I would stop and get jalapeno cheese and sausage kolaches. I have since left the great state of Texas and miss that wonderful treat from the market.
Recently on a trip to Wal-Mart I saw a box labeled kolaches in the frozen food section. I had to try them. They are “Great Day Breakfast” Cheddar Jalapeno Kolaches. I paid around $2.50 for a box of 4 (8oz). I was sorely disappointed, but my husband [...]
7 Ways Texas is Better Than Whatever Shitty State You Live In.
Yes, even California.(JOpinionated tagged me for the Seven Things meme that I’ve done fifty million times. So, here’s fifty million and one!)1. Shiner Bock.2. Kolaches. Walk in to any donut store in Texas and order a jalapeno kolache. Trust me.3. Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes. While I really do enjoy the trash that decorates the freeways in Los Angeles, I think I’ll always prefer the wildflowers that bloom along the freeways in Texas.4. Pappasitos. Best. Tex-Mex. Ever.5. Driving. We know h

Gulf coast contests in jeopardy due to Ike?
An anonymous comment claims that the kolache eating contest at the Houston Astros game Friday night and the grits eating contest in Louisiana on Saturday will be cancelled due to hurricane Ike. No official decision appears to have been announced, but the Houston Astros website does report that the Astros game on Friday will be played at 1:05 pm if it appears that Ike will threaten Houston.
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME (SO I CAN DOODLE)
Had some awesome seats and great weather to see the Rangers spank the Red Sox last night in Arlington, TX: Rangers 15, Boston 8. Ate a jumbo hot dog, a ton of nachos, and my first kolache at the Czech Stop in West, Texas along the way. There’s a bunch of great stuff you see at a baseball game, so I always try to take my sketchbook and draw a little. Meg had the camera and caught me in action:
